Standard I cases (2027): accurate, timely, complete and plain

In 2027 every communication is checked against four tests (accurate, timely, complete, plain language), and the newer traps are ESG claims, AI capability claims, who really does the work, stale results and thin information for prospects.

In short

  • Four tests: accurate (truthful, free from error, precise, not vague or misleading), timely (given in time for recipients to act), complete (all facts and elements necessary and customary) and in plain language (clear, concise, common words, not dominated by jargon).
  • The past is not a promise: do not state or imply that clients will achieve a return generated in the past, and do not guarantee returns or capital on risky investments.
  • Models: use a broad range of assumptions including extremely negative scenarios; leaving out potentially negative outcomes can misrepresent value and risk.
  • Newer claims: ESG, AI and staffing descriptions must match reality, be clearly described and be kept current.
  • Prospects versus clients: you may give prospects less detail, but never in a way that misrepresents the nature or risk of the investment.
  • Third parties: disclose their intended use, and do not present their work as your own.
